Update on the Call for Disaster Relief Support for Saint Lucia

The Saint Lucian Diaspora in Canada has rallied remarkably in support of Saint Lucians affected by the November 06th Rainfall Trough System, which ravaged Saint Lucia’s north.

Following the passage of this devastating weather system, the Consulate sought and received a priority list of items needed to assist the victims, and was able to mobilize the Diaspora, to secure support.

The Consulate General of Saint Lucia therefore expresses its deepest gratitude to our Canadian Diaspora, for their rapid and reliable response, and tangible contributions to the Disaster Relief efforts.

Special mention must be made of Ms. Theodora Raymond, Ms. Naomi Jules from the Girls United Foundation, Ms. Margaret Daniel of the Saint Lucia Calgary Cultural Association, and Mr Habeeb Alli of the One Love Family Services – who all served as leaders in mobilizing the many nationals, who gave generously to Saint Lucia, in her hour of need.

Mr. Ken Chitolie – a prominent Saint Lucian Businessman and Philanthropist in Toronto, and President of KLC Freight Ltd. – sealed the deal, by donating his shipping service, to secure the delivery of the disaster relief supplies to Saint Lucia.

The Consulate General of Saint Lucia in Canada will continue to engage all stakeholders and search for support for Saint Lucia during this time of distress, especially for the displaced families. As the victims seek to rebuild their homes and restore their livelihoods, we must keep them in our thoughts and prayers, and remain proactive and ready to assist them.

Thank you again to everyone who contributed; your generosity and support are deeply appreciated and valued.

Blessings to all of you for a joyous Christmas and a prosperous New Year!

Henry Mangal
