Consul General Henry Mangal Attends CACBTA Launch

The Canadian Afro-CARICOM Business Trade Association (CACBTA) held its inaugural meeting, on 03rd December 2024, at Toronto’s Metro Hall. This landmark event, aimed at fostering economic growth, inclusivity, and innovation between Canada, Africa, and the Caribbean, was followed by an elegant VIP reception at Scotiabank Arena, underscoring the significance of the organization’s launch.

CACBTA’s mission is to bridge the gap between businesses across Canada, the Caribbean, and Africa. Co-founder and President Shawn Allen emphasized the organization’s goal to empower entrepreneurs, foster collaboration, and advocate for equitable access to opportunities. “This is about creating pathways for success in business and trade, not just locally, but globally,” Allen stated.

The association’s focus includes providing networking opportunities, addressing challenges, and exploring innovative solutions. Key growth sectors identified during the event included renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, tourism, infrastructure development, and regional trade integration.

The meeting brought together a mix of business leaders, government officials, and diplomats, including Consuls General from CARICOM nations. Discussions revolved around leveraging bilateral trade opportunities, which exceeded $1.7 billion between Canada and CARICOM countries in 2023, and fostering stronger ties to address pressing global issues such as climate resilience and food security.

The event concluded with a call to action for the diaspora to invest in their homelands and participate in nation-building. Discussions touched on innovative ideas such as diaspora investment funds and enhanced infrastructure to ease business transactions and trade.

As CACBTA looks to 2025 and beyond, its leadership remains focused on forging meaningful partnerships and advocating for inclusive policies. The association is poised to become a key player in connecting businesses across continents and shaping a brighter future for the communities it serves.
