Saint Lucia’s 41st Anniversary of Independence Thanksgiving Church Service in Toronto

On Sunday, March 08th, 2020, The Consulate General of Saint Lucia in Toronto hosted Saint Lucia’s 41st Anniversary of the Independence Thanksgiving Church Service, under the theme ‘Now is the time. Let’s do this together.’ The Service was held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Caribbean Canadian Church, located at 867 College Street, Toronto.

The celebratory service was attended by Saint Lucia’s Minster for External Affairs, Hounourable Sarah Flood-Beaubrun, former Governor General of Saint Lucia, Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy, staff from the Consulate General of Saint Lucia, as well as nationals, friends, supporters and well wishers.

Father Matthias Amuzu, presided over the service, while Deacon Eustace Beausoliel, a Saint Lucian national, delivered the sermon. In keeping with this year’s theme for Independence, ‘Now is the time, Let’s do this together.’, Deacon Beausoliel spoke on putting God first in all our endeavours, as we come together as a country to work toward building a better Saint Lucia.

Honourable Sarah Flood-Beaubrun, in her brief address to the congregation, echoed Deacon Beausoliel’s sentiments in his sermon and further explained that, in our attempt at uniting for the common goal of bettering our country, we must remember to put God first, and let him apportion to each of us, our roles within this common goal.  The Minister, referencing International Women’s day, spoke on the role of women, within the theme of this year’s independence ‘Now is the time. Let’s do this together.’ and encouraged Saint Lucian women to take up the mantle, in leading the charge in this endeavour.

The service was followed by a reception, where guests were treated to Saint Lucian cuisine, prepared by Saint Lucia’s very own award-winning chef, Victoria Alexander, during which time, the Minister, Honourable Sarah Flood-Beaubrun and H.E. Dame Pearlette Louisy, got a chance to interact with the many Nationals who were in attendance.
