Saint Lucian National John Wiggins Awarded the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal

This year, the Government of Canada launched a number of Platinum Jubilee celebrations, for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, marking the 70th anniversary of her accession to the Throne. She is Canada’s longest reigning Sovereign and the first to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee; she ascended to the throne on February 6th, 1952, at the age of 25.

To mark this auspicious occasion, MPs were provided with a limited number of commemorative pins. MP Anita Anand and Pam Damoff called for nominations, to recognize outstanding community members, for their hard work and dedication.

Community leaders were selected based on their service in a broad range of areas, including children and youth services, environmental and historical preservation, diversity and inclusion, and support for newcomers, among others.

On August 29th, 2022, more than 65 honorees, residing in Oakville – North Burlington, Ontario, including our very own John Wiggins, were presented with a certificate and pin, to celebrate their achievements.

John is the Vice President of Organizational Culture and Inclusion, for the Toronto Raptors, where he is charged with leading groups within the organization, in addressing inclusion, equity, social injustice, political reform, and building a team culture, and he also leads the team’s external outreach initiatives.

He most recently held the title of Vice-President of Raptors 905, where he helped launch Canada’s first G League franchise. He also assisted in launching the inaugural teams of the National Basketball League of Canada.

The Consulate General of Saint Lucia in Toronto would like to officially congratulate John, on this outstanding accomplishment and wish him success, in all his future endeavors.
