On Wednesday, 11th March, 2020, the Saint Lucian Young Leaders in Canada (SYLC) held its official launch at the Oakwood Village Library and Arts Centre. The launch was held to commemorate St. Lucia’s 41st Independence Celebration under the theme ‘Now is the time, let’s do this together’ as well as to introduce SYLC to the public.
The launch was a networking opportunity and panel discussion featuring a mixed panel of youth and successful professionals, including Juan Sanchez, Lisa-Monique Edward, Johann ‘Yogidaproducer’ Deterville, Ross Cadasse, John Allen and Dame Pearlette Louisy. The topics of discussion were;
- The impact of generational gaps on youth development.
- The importance of youth empowerment and education.
- The ways in which members of the diaspora can make a difference in St. Lucia/the Caribbean.
SYLC was created with a mission to encourage and facilitate youth projects and outreach initiatives while bridging generational gaps within the Saint Lucian culture and diaspora.
