Consul General Henry Mangal Engages Saint Lucian Communities in Ottawa & Toronto

Consul General Henry Mangal recently joined members of the Saint Lucian community and friends of Saint Lucia at gatherings in Ottawa and Toronto, highlighting the importance of continued engagement, connection and collaboration among Saint Lucians across Canada.

On August 22, Consul General Mangal attended the Saint Lucia Festival hosted by the Saint Lucia Ottawa Association at Eccolands Park. The festival brought members of the community together for a day of activities, food and live entertainment, while Saint Lucian vendors showcased products and flavours reflective of home. The event provided an opportunity for community members to connect, celebrate Saint Lucian culture and heritage, and share in the vibrancy of the Saint Lucian community in Ottawa.

A week later, on August 29, he joined members of the Saint Lucian community in Toronto for the Parklife Family Day Picnic at Downsview Dells Park. The family-oriented gathering brought together Saint Lucians and friends of Saint Lucia for a day of community, connection and shared activities, providing an informal setting for families and community members from Toronto and the wider Greater Toronto Area to spend time together and strengthen community ties.

Across both gatherings, Mr. Mangal congratulated the organizers and acknowledged the efforts of the volunteers, participants, families and others who contributed to the success of the events. He highlighted the value of community-led initiatives in creating opportunities for Saint Lucians to meet, engage and build relationships with one another, and encouraged Saint Lucian groups, organizations and individuals to continue developing activities that foster positive community engagement and collaboration around areas of shared interest.

He also emphasized the important role that community gatherings play in maintaining connections to Saint Lucian culture, traditions and heritage within the diaspora. He noted, in particular, the value of creating spaces where children and younger generations can participate in Saint Lucian community life, engage with other Saint Lucians and maintain a meaningful connection to Saint Lucia and its culture.

Reflecting on his participation in the two events, Mr. Mangal noted the positive community engagement witnessed in both Ottawa and Toronto, including the participation of Saint Lucians who travelled between communities to support and take part in these gatherings. He expressed the hope that Saint Lucian communities across Canada can continue to learn from and encourage one another in developing initiatives that bring people together and strengthen connections within the wider Saint Lucian diaspora.

The Consulate General of Saint Lucia in Toronto congratulates the Saint Lucia Ottawa Association and the organizers of the Saint Lucia Festival, as well as the organizers of the Parklife Family Day Picnic, on their respective events. The Consulate extends its appreciation to all those who contributed to the gatherings and looks forward to continuing to engage with and support community initiatives that promote connection, collaboration, and the celebration and preservation of Saint Lucian culture and heritage across Canada.
