On Friday September 30th2022, an award ceremony was held at the Orchid Gardens Conference Room to distribute Certificates of Recognition to the participants in the training:
- Heritage Management in Mexico, which was held from February 2nd to March 30th, 2022 offered by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH)
- Workshop on Attention Strategies for Invasive Species in Protected Areas of Mexico, conducted on June 1st and 2nd, 2022, by National Commission of Protected Natural Areas (CONANP)
The abovementioned training are activities under the project “Heritage Management to Promote National Identity, Creation of New Tourism Experiences and Reduce Unemployment” in Saint Lucia. This project is being implemented in coordination with the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXID), the Mexican Embassy in Saint Lucia, the Office of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of External Affairs.
Participants are expected to gain exposure to the wealth of knowledge and experience from the cooperating Mexican Institutions, including CONANP and INAH under this programme. The challenge now is enabling this valuable information received from Mexico to be examined against our own situation and to applying what is learnt to improve some of the pressing matters facing some of our sites in Saint Lucia. Some of these sites remain unexplored and insufficient research has been done to fashion them into best practice models of sustainable tourism products.
It is expected that through this project, development plans, policies and legislation would be prepared to help preserve and enhance Saint Lucia’s Heritage assets for sustainable livelihood opportunities.
