Saint Lucia’s First Diaspora Affairs Officer Appointed at Toronto Consulate

[Toronto, ON, November 9ᵗʰ, 2022] — The Consulate General of Saint Lucia in Toronto is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Arletta Walcott-Peter, as Diaspora Affairs Officer.

In this new capacity, Ms. Walcott-Peter will be required to manage the relationship of the Consulate, with individuals and organizations representing the Saint Lucian Diaspora in Canada, provide support in building their capacity, and facilitate their positive contribution, towards Saint Lucia’s development.

Ms. Walcott-Peter is the first person to hold this position, under the new Diaspora Affairs Department, of the Ministry of External Affairs, International Trade, Civil Aviation and Diaspora Affairs – which is headed by Ambassador for Diaspora Affairs – His Excellency Julian DuBois.

Arletta is no stranger to the Consulate and the Diaspora, having served as Information Officer, in the past, and is connected to the Saint Lucian community in Canada.

In accepting her new position, Walcott-Peter said: “I am excited to be part of this new vision for our Diaspora and believe that my role will further demonstrate the Government’s interest, in ensuring that the Diaspora has a voice, in the economic and social development of Saint Lucia.

I look forward to working with the organisations within the Saint Lucian community, to support their mandate and provide a conduit to the Consulate. In the coming weeks, I will be engaging you, the Diaspora, in discussion for Independence Celebrations 2023 and other upcoming events.”

Improving the efficiency of services to Saint Lucians and Canadians, increasing educational and economic opportunities, for our people, and preserving Saint Lucian culture and heritage in Canada, will continue to be the critical focus of the Consulate, with the addition of Ms. Arletta Walcott-Peter, as Diaspora Affairs Officer.
