It is with profound sadness that we at the Ministry of External Affairs inform of the passing of the Chief of Protocol Mrs. Bernadette George Martial.
Bernadette was a dedicated, dutiful and devoted servant of the public, whose patriotism and sense of service was demonstrated throughout the ledgers of her professional life.
Over the years, Bernadette became the face of Saint Lucia’s excellence in protocol and consular affairs. Her grace, charm, poise and quiet confidence often belied the chaos and confusion that very few saw behind the scenes of the many big meetings and state events that she directed.
Bernadette had a Galvanizing and endearing personality that made working with her very easy.
Bernadette was a team player, a devoted friend, a loving mother, a devoted wife, a faithful Christian, a pillar for her family and a true professional.
Her service to Saint Lucia was not limited to the 238 square miles but extended extra-territorially to all our missions and diplomatic allies abroad.
Bernadette served Saint Lucia until her last days and with her last ounce of strength. Indeed, Bernadette was the epitome of hope and faith combined.
The Ministry has lost a strong pillar and a great part of its institutional memory. A deep sense of sorrow engulfs us all, as we attempt to come to terms with this immense loss.
We offer our heartfelt condolences to her family, especially her husband and children and we pray that God grants us all great consolation, in our time of mourning.
Bernadette George Martial has departed this mortal life and gone to her rest but for us, her presence will abound and her spirit will forever remain with us… as she was…“As Tireless as Time”
May she rest in ETERNAL Peace.
